About

Welcome to the Stigma and Resilience among Vulnerable Youth Centre. It’s a mouthful, we know! Our friends and collaborators call us SARAVYC, and you can too. At SARAVYC, we believe in research that makes a difference and focuses on resilience. Since 2006, we’ve been conducting rigorous, cutting-edge, and award-winning research that studies how stigma, discrimination, violence, and trauma affect young people’s health. Our goal is to identify factors that foster youth resilience in spite of stigma. By collaborating with youth and their communities, we aim to develop culturally and contextually relevant interventions that not only improve health outcomes and equity for youth, but also influence policies and practices worldwide.

Vision

Improved health outcomes and equity for youth—especially those targeted by stigma—throughout Canada and internationally.

How does research make a difference?

Research that makes a difference is relevant, rigorous, and innovative. Our research makes a difference by identifying resilience factors in spite of stigma, influencing policies and practices, and ultimately improving health outcomes and equity worldwide. Research conducted at SARAVYC has gained wide-spread, international attention. Here are a few highlights of what we’ve learned.
